Doorways 2 Construction

Students from Naracoorte High participating in the Dooreays 2 Construction programSince 2010 we have provided the students of the Naracoorte High School, Naracoorte Independent Learning Centre and the Lucindale Area School with the opportunity to achieve a Cert I, and Cert II in Building and Construction. The program has been developed through a strong relationship with the local community.

Doorways 2 Construction has completed a number of community based projects including paving at the Naracoorte Early Learning Centre, renovation of the interior and exterior at the Naracoorte United Soccer clubrooms, restoration of the Lucindale Area School toilet block, building of a shed at the Frances Bowling club and building a chicken coop for the environmental student group at the Naracoorte Primary School.

Doorways 2 Construction has built and is currently building a transportable house, what makes this project so unique is the specific community connection it has. The program is being supported by approximately 20 community businesses through in kind donations of either time or products. This has enabled the students with the opportunity to experience all trade areas relating to the construction industry including building, plumbing, electrical, earthworks, flooring, plastering and cabinet construction. The students have also been involved in the council approval and real estate processes of the project. Students enter the program through an application process in Term 2 of year 10, this allows the students to begin the program in Term 3. Certificate I is delivered over 2 semesters. The students then have the opportunity to continue for another semester to complete  in preparation for an apprenticeship.
